In Class:

*Students had time to work on their research guide
*Students needed teacher initials to indicate they were done with research guide (today was the deadline)

Homework:

1. Highlight all resources that show information on your research guide. This will tell me where you got the information from.


2. FOR STUDENTS WHO DID NOT GET A TEACHER INITIAL TODAY: YOUR RESEARCH GUIDE IS DUE ON THE 1ST DAY BACK FROM INTERSESSION. AN EXTENSION WAS GIVEN SO THAT YOU COULD HAVE MORE TIME. YOUR GRADE WILL BE NO HIGHER THAN A PROFICIENT. IF YOUR RESEARCH GUIDE IS NOT COMPLETED, YOUR RESEARCH GRADE WILL BE A '0.'

4 days of class time was given to do research in class and 5 days were given to research at home or go the library.

*Students had time to work on research guide for Pacific Islands.
*Students are supposed to come up and see me to get their resources and notes checked out. I will highlight the questions to check that they were okay after looking at the resources that the students brought with them.
STUDENTS NEED TO BRING IN RESOURCES! THIS IS A REQUIREMENT.

Homework:

1. Bring in additional resources (need to complete 12 out of 15 questions)
2. Check blog for example.
3. Research due by Wednesday if students do not validate 12 of 15 questions by tomorrow. This is enough time since classtime and weekend was given.

*Went over Pacific Island Vacations project and expectations and passed out research guide

In Class:

Cores 4 & 5 took school summative on demographic populations and its effects on a place. (students were given a second chance to take a retake of yesterday's formative if they received a novice or approaching grade. Students were informed yesterday that they could come in during recess to retake formative.

Core 1 and 2: reviewed school summative and went over physical and human characteristics of a place. Given West Podiatry Island worksheet (looks at physical characteristics and measurements). Due next Wednesday at end of class for Core 1 and 2.

*Went over new standards and benchmarks for Qtr 3. Current benchmark: Explain how demographic concepts affects places.
*Went over 4 steps when reading articles: 1. What is the population that is being talked about; 2. What's happening to the population (increase or decrease); 3. What place is being affected?; and 4. What effects does it have on the place.
*Went over example of how MMS would be affected if students living on town side went to Wheeler Middle School (less students, better teacher to student ratio, less monies, less teachers, less crowding, no buses)

Homework:

1. Teenbiz Article: "The Count Is In" (do not print) - Students will have until this Friday to get it done. No extensions.
